Fate/Grand Order Tierlist: Ranking all Caster servants!

Hello there and welcome to the week of Fate/Grand Order Tierlists! This week the Japanese version is celebrating their 5th anniversary and since I can’t escape this hell, I thought it would be a nice idea to share my appreciation for the game and make a tier list for all of my favourite servants! Today’s subject will be the Caster class, the only class that matters on the support list to many people. This class has some of the most broken supports that can even turn the weakest of servants into huge powerhouses. It’s also one of the more clustered servants, because if a famous historical person doesn’t really have any combat abilities or have something unexplainable, let’s just make them a Caster.

The rules for this tier list are:

  1. These tier lists are strictly my personal opinion and are not only based on how good they are in-game. I rank them based on how much I like their character, design, how fun they are to play with as a unit etc.
  2. I will talk about every servant independently, and will also mention how good they are in-game just for the people interested. I won’t talk about the personality/character of Event servants, as I’ll reserve them for their main class.
  3. The tiers themselves are not ordered by how much I like them.
  4. Their placement is based on how much I like them compared to others in the same class. This means that being in neutral does not mean they’re bad at all!
  5. I am also ranking servants from the Japanese version on here, but their placement might change in the future once I get to know them better.
  6. I will spoil the names of servants, though they aren’t really a secret anymore. You have been warned though.
  7. Since I will be using the same terms quite a lot, I’m using the following abbrevations:
    1. Noble Phantasm = NP
    2. Single Target  = ST
    3. Area of Effect = AoE
    4. Delight Works (developers of the game) = DW
    5. Japanese version = JP
    6. North-American version = NA

Without further ado, let’s get on with the tierlist! Click any of the links below to go to their tier, select a page or go to the very end to see the complete tierlist!

Ninja edit:¬†Artoria Caster won’t be on this tierlist due to the tierlist being made before she was announced. She would otherwise be in the like tier. I have edited all summary’s to include how well they would fare now that Artoria Caster is in the game however.

I’m only familiar with the characters who showed up in F/SN and Zero, but it’s still interesting to read how they turned out in this game. It’s only right that Illya is a top-tier character, yeah. She’s one of my favorites from the series.

I wish I’d played more of Fate/Extra. I started out with Tamamo because there’s no way I’m not going with the fox girl, but the game beat me around a bit and I gave up. I need to return to it one day.

Illya and Sakura definitely got the best end of the stick from all the F/SN and Zero characters, not counting Saber herself which has a ton of alternate forms. They appear quite frequently (though for Sakura it’s mostly her alter ego’s from Extra CCC) and are most of the time not only top-tier characters, but also top-tier gameplay-wise. And truly deserving as well, since I like Illya a lot as well!

I can imagine that, the first playthrough as Tamamo can be a true nightmare. It does get a bit easier on whenever she gets access to more magic spells, but the early parts of the game are the worst for sure.
